The Young Playwrights' Lab and Festival

10-day intensive workshop - Monday, July 18 - Friday, July 29, 2011, from 9 am to 4 pm.
As part of its outreach to the community, this summer the Overtime Theater also will cultivate young writing talent in San Antonio. Local arts educators, including Christie Beckham, Tyler Keyes and other professionals, will give workshops in acting, directing, and writing to culminate in an original short play by each student. Sample classes include The Writer’s Table, Theater History, Acting, Directing, Improvisation, and Puppetry. Each student's play then will be performed by a seasoned team of actors on the Overtime's main stage in the Young Playwrights' Festival. The plays will be performed at 6 pm on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31.

The 2 Stories of the 3 Little Pigs - Summer Musical Theater Workshop

The SPC Academy of Fine Arts is holding REGISTRATION for the 2011 Summer Musical Theatre Workshop production of "The 2 Stories of the 3 Little Pigs" on Saturday: May 21st @ 10am in the Watson Fine Arts Center, Dance Studio #103. This program is developed for both Middle and High School students to participate and gain a greater understanding of the mechanics of creating a theatrical production. This 8 week workshop begins June 6th and runs through July 30th, with performances scheduled for the last week of July at the Watson Fine Arts Center. There are several roles available, and the production is under the direction of Mr. Laurence Wensel. Scholarships are available. Only a limited number of performers will be accepted into the program. During the two-week camp, students will put together an intense Broadway-style musical revue and perform it for the community. Camp Artpace projects are designed to reach all types of learners, and the week-long program is structured to keep kids actively engaged through daily workshops with practicing artists. Parents and family will be able to view the students’ creations during an exhibition at Artpace on the final day of camp.
YAIR (Young-Artists-in-Residence) Camp
The registration deadline is July 9th.
During the heat of July, teens will get cooking by building their portfolios through a series of artist-led workshops at Artpace. Participants are encouraged to bring previous work or ideas to polish over a two-week period at our innovative research- and practice based art camp. Student work will be featured during a closing exhibition on July 29th; participants will also receive a color catalogue for their keeping, as well as a CD with professionally photographed images of their art.

YOSA Summer String Camp is the only program of its kind in the San Antonio metropolitan area. This two-week day camp provides intensive instruction in orchestral studies, string technique, music theory, composition and chamber music. This is an excellent opportunity for young string musicians to strengthen their musical skills during the summer. You will be able to register for the 2011 YOSA Summer String Camp at the beginning of April. Please check back at that time to signup online. Any string player ages 8-18 with at least one year of experience on violin, viola, cello or bass is eligible.

The Teen Arts Puentes Project (TAPP) is a multimedia arts and activism program for San Antonio youth. Members take workshops in theater, visual art, poetry, and film/video, with projects and events focused on fostering healthy personal relationships, community engagement, and self-reliance. Each session culminates in a performance/exhibition with a city wide tour of the show at the end of the summer.
