    Art in the Garden 2012

Featuring Verina Baxter, Dewane Hughes, Linda Kim, Peter Mangan, Bret Price, Patricia Tinajero & George Tobolowsky.

Combining lush plants, eye-catching landscapes, gorgeous vistas and intriguing artwork, once again the San Antonio Botanical Garden is host to Art in the Garden. An annual collaboration with Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, the sculpture exhibit celebrates Contemporary Art Month.

This year’s opening reception on March 23, 5:30pm - 7:30pm, is extra special as it will feature the music of John Magaldi and the Primetime Jazz Orchestra, with Richie Cole. As part of KRTU 91.7 FM’s Tenth Anniversary in Jazz, members of participating non-profit organizations will enjoy free admission to the evening reception (general public $5).

Curated by British sculptor Philip King, Art in the Garden is a year-long event featuring sculptures by members of the Texas Sculpture Group and the Mid-South Alliance. Phillip King was part of a group of young artists that revolutionized British sculpture in the late 1960’s and is arguably one of the most important sculptors of our day.

Sponsors for the exhibit include the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts and the Office of Cultural Affairs for the City of San Antonio.

Daily admission to the San Antonio Botanical Garden is $8 adults; $6 students, seniors, military; $5 children age 3-13. San Antonio Botanical Garden is located at 555 Funston Place at North New Braunfels. Parking is free. The Botanical Garden is operated under the auspices of the City of San Antonio Department of Parks & Recreation and is open year- round except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Texas Sculpture Group

Founded by a group of artists from San Antonio, Austin and Houston, the TSG is one of three affiliates operating in cooperation with the International Sculpture Group (ISG.) This gathering of professional sculptors, dealers, curators and collectors formed to promote both public and art-world awareness through exhibitions, publication and networking.

    Mid-South Sculpture Alliance

The Mid-South Sculpture Alliance advances the creation and awareness of sculpture in its many and varied forms, promoting a supportive environment for sculpture and sculptors. The Mid-South Sculpture Alliance seeks to advance the understanding that sculpture educates; effects social change; and engages artists, art professionals, and the community in dialogue.
