Institute of Texan Cultures

UTSA’s Institute of Texan Cultures is San Antonio’s cultural experience museum, featuring 50,000 square feet of exhibit space dedicated to celebrating Texas’s multicultural heritage through exciting programs, fun family activities, colorful events, and enlightening stories shared by our Historical Texas Characters. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras, and don’t be afraid to touch—many of the museum exhibits feature hands-on elements!

    Timeless Texas Toys Institute of Texan Cultures Timeless Texas Toys Presented by Institute of Texan Cultures at Institute of Texan Cultures November 19, 2011-August 5, 2012 “Timeless Texas Toys” explores the cultural values, ingenuity, art, and design expressed in handmade folk toys. In a child’s hands, folk toys, typically made of wood, clay, cloth or even corn husks, come to life in lands of make-believe, or serve to recreate in miniature the world around them. Toys not only reflect life and culture, they also teach it. Children everywhere learn about societal roles and cultural expectations through their toys as they grow into adulthood. ...

    Texas Folklife Festival Institute of Texan Cultures Texas Folklife Festival Presented by Institute of Texan Cultures at Institute of Texan Cultures June 8-June 10, 2012 The Institute of Texan Cultures presents the Texas Folklife Festival, a three-day celebration of the people, cultures and customs of Texas. The festival features music, food, dance, artisans and demonstrators who preserve the folkways of the many cultures of Texas. The festival brings together more than 40 unique cultures, 250 participating organizations, 150 menu items, 60 arts & crafts vendors and several stages of music, dance and entertainment.
