First Local Filmmakers Grant awarded to "Champion"
September 18, 2012 - The $25,000 grant program is a collaboration between OCA and the San Antonio Film Commission. "Champion" is the second production from the grant recipient team, following the successful "Angel Dog" released last year.
San Antonio Creative Industry continues growth trend generating $4.6 billion in 2011
August 17, 2012 - The San Antonio Creative Industry 2011 Economic Impact Assessment Study will be release at the Creative Economy Luncheon on August 22. Despite the economic downturn, the overall economic impact of the creative industry grew by 35.89% from 2006 to 2011.

San Antonio Poet Laureate Dr. Carmen Tafolla releases signature series
June 20, 2012 - After being appointed to the honorary position in April, Tafolla worked with OCA staff to develop engaging programming with longer lasting impact that promotes poetry, literary arts, and literacy.
Public meetings planned for historic Mission Drive-in Mural Project
May 25, 2012 - This is the final component of a three year-long effort to rehabilitate the historic drive-in theatre in collaboration with the Texas Historical Commission and the San Antonio Conservation Society.
San Antonio to host more than 1,100 arts professionals at Americans for the Arts' Annual Convention in June
April 25, 2012 - It's been nearly 40 years since Americans for the Arts has held its convention in San Antonio. Keynote speakers at the convention include Luis Ubiñas, president of the Ford Foundation; and Naomi Shihab Nye, award-winning poet, writer, anthologist, educator and celebrated author.
Mayor Castro announces nationally renowned author Carmen Tafolla as San Antonio's inaugural Poet Laureate
March 27, 2012 - On April 3, 2012, San Antonio will become the first major city in Texas to appoint a Poet Laureate. The Mayor’s announcement and reception will take place on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at City Council Chambers in the Municipal Plaza Building, 114 W. Commerce St. The event is free and open to the public.
Local Filmmaker Grant will stimulate local film industry
March 15, 2012 - San Antonio City Council unanimously approved the Local Filmmakers Grant (LFG), a $25,000 grant funded by OCA to make a feature-length motion picture in San Antonio, to suppor local filmmakers who have at least $25,000 in funding commitments in place and have a feature-length motion picture in pre-production stage.
San Antonio Neighborhood Film Project 3.0 competition sees spike in number of films submitted - screening and awards March 31st
March 6, 2012 - This year OCA received a total of 68 different films representing six different categories, an increase in submissions of 70%. The 2011 competition brought in 40 films from local filmmakers.
Office of Congressman Gonzalez hosts NEA and NEH grant workshop in partnership with the Office of Cultural Affairs
February 15, 2012 - OCA, in coordination with the office of Congressman Charlie Gonzalez will host a grant workshop for local organizations and individuals interested in grant opportunities through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

September 20, 2011 - Public Art San Antonio (PASA) announces a new downtown collaborative public art exhibit, Downtown Storefronts, that is designed to invigorate vacant storefront properties with a variety of temporary public art installations created by local artists.
Artist Integrates Natural Imagery Into Mulberry Bridge Project at Brackenridge Park
May 16, 2011 - Local ceramic artist Diana Kersey created new art panels for the Mulberry Avenue Bridge west of Avenue B as part of the City’s Catalpa Pershing Bridge Modifications project. The natural design imagery creates a welcoming “gateway” into Brackenridge Park and an attractive icon for visitors to the park.
Artist Creates Space for Contemplation at New Parman Library at Stone Oak
May 3, 2011 - Artist and master wood craftsman Peter Zubiate has created art for the new Parman Library at Stone Oak that is inspired by the Hill Country setting of the site.

Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure for the Northern Ireland meets with Mexican Cultural Institute and the San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs
March 16, 2010 - Nelson McCausland, MLA, Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure in Northern Ireland, will visit San Antonio, March 18, during an upcoming trip to Texas. While in San Antonio, Minister McCausland will meet the Instituto Cultural de Mexico and the Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) to discuss Northern Ireland’s cultural ties to Mexico and the Mexican American community.
Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative
November 23, 2009 - The City of San Antonio, Office of Cultural Affairs will host the San Antonio stop of the 50-state tour for Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative on December 2, 9:30am - 11:30am at the San Pedro Playhouse. Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser will conduct a free arts leadership symposium. Robert Rivard, editor of the San Antonio Express-News, will be moderating the discussion with Kaiser.
The Office of Cultural Affairs unveils three new Neighborhood Tours
November 18, 2009 - In an effort to continue to draw tourists and locals to the cultural richness of San Antonio, the Office of Cultural Affairs will unveil three new web-based Neighborhood Tours during a reception November 18 at the historic Guadalupe Theater. The tours highlight the diverse cultural landscape of San Antonio, and showcase the city as a cultural destination. Tours include; the Westside's Murals Y Más Tour, The Eastside's Echoes of the Eastside Tour, and the Downtown North River Tour.
Creative Capital Donates Professional Development Session for SAY Sí Alumni
May 21, 2008 - The City of San Antonio’s Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) and Economic Development Department are proud to announce a professional development session for local artists and SAY Sí alumni. The alumni participating in the workshop are comprised of local high school seniors and college students who have graduated from Say Sí’s educational program.
